The same things that make a product page convince a human shopper also make it work better with AI assistants. Here is what to focus on.
Quick wins
- Use specific, descriptive titles (Lavender soy candle, 200ml — not just Candle)
- Write a description that names the materials, dimensions, and intended use
- Add at least three clear photos — a main shot, a detail close-up, and a lifestyle photo
- Set up variants like size and colour where they apply, so the right options come through
- Keep your prices and stock counts up to date so AI assistants quote the latest details
Common pitfalls
- Vague titles that need extra context to understand
- Empty descriptions or one-word entries
- Leaving a sold-out product Active with Track quantity switched off, so an AI assistant keeps recommending it
- Photos that are tiny, blurry, or watermarked
- Variants with unclear option names, so sizes and colours are hard to tell apart
Write for a human first
If your product page would convince a friend to buy, it will work for an AI assistant too. AI is trained on real human reviews and writing, so the rules of good storytelling still apply.
Check the AI Commerce setup checklist
The Setup tab in AI Commerce covers the must-haves — published privacy and terms policies, the product types AI assistants can sell, and on/off switches per product — so your products actually appear in AI answers. Tidy product copy and photos pair with that to give you the best result.
Frequently asked questions
Will rewriting a product title break my links?
No. Your product’s web address stays the same when you edit its title — it only changes if you deliberately edit the address itself. So existing links to that product keep working.
How many photos is enough?
Three is a solid floor — a main pack shot, a detail close-up, and a lifestyle photo showing the product in use. More is fine if you genuinely have variety to show; padding the gallery with similar angles is not.
Do I need different descriptions for AI?
No. AI assistants read the same product page humans do, so improving it for one improves it for the other. The only AI-specific work happens in AI Commerce — switching on the AI assistants, choosing eligible product types, and adding your policy page web addresses.
